Default 6/14/08 - Happy Father's Day!

Not exactly a Juneau fishing report, but a Juneau Boat's fishing report ought to count for something, eh?

Ran down to Angoon for my annual Father's Day trip on Saturday. Got a late start, so weather was good all the way to the tidal change at Parker Point where we encountered 6'-8' footers. No way I wanted to fish with my kids in that, so we headed in to the lodge a bit early to unwind.

The halibut sashimi was some of the best I've ever had, and, while they didn't have my favorite Thai Crab on the menu this week, the Pineapple Coconut Mango Jerk Halibut was wonderful!

Left for home about noon yesterday, and stopped at a favorite little chicken patch. The kids, wife, mother-in-law and family friend limited within 90 minutes, and I was so happy gaffing fish and watching everyone have fun that I forgot to fish myself!

Made good time all the way home, and seas were flat the whole way. Stopped off at Hanus Reef to check a few holes myself (while everyone else slept!) Nothing but small arrowtooth flounder anytime I got deeper than 350', but picked up one nice chicken and a small quillback rockfish before it was time to head home.

The no-see-ums sucked in the harbor at Auke Bay last night. Took me just as long to clean and bag all the fish as it did for everyone to catch them!

Happy Father's Day (belated) to anyone with kids... remember that it doesn't have to be a holiday to enjoy fishing with your family! ;-)
