| I know you can rent boats and things but can you rent the entire fishing setup? Like someone to take you out and provides the boat and poles, bait etc? We aren't looking to spend an arm and a leg and something close to the Wasilla area would be great. Thanks! |

| Sablefish | Guided fishing is very popular all over the State. Granted, I'm a bit biased because it's my business, but I'd say it's always smart to hire a guide and rent the gear, boat, etc. anytime you're visiting a new area. I have a good friend who lived here for 30 years, fished all over the place, and became a real expert on halibut fishing near Juneau. When he retired and moved to Montana, he used to bring a group of buddies up for their annual "halibut hunt" every year or two. Last year, conditions and laws had changed so much that they almost got into quite a bit of trouble. He's sworn that he'll charter me and my boat for the next trip, since I'm in the business of staying up on all the new rules, gear, hot spots, etc... -Case

| I believe it is better to rent everything, unless you have something very professional and special to fish with. Besides, it is better like case said, to hire a guide and make sure everything will be as safe and legal as possible! |

| Coho | Now that you have a renting plan for visiting Alaska, you can save for it. It may take a while, but it could come faster than you think. When I visited India in 1989, the amount of $2000 to go seemed like an impossibility. I started with nothing, but kept giving what I could, and asking others for help. Then the money was due, and unbelievably I had the amount I needed. ![]() |
