Default Cruise questions...

What kind of ports of calls are popular and recommended places to go? If you leave out of Alaska on a cruise where is the destination usually going to be?

I have only went out of the port in Texas. If I am correct you can leave out of California and go to Alaska, no?

There are a few cruises that depart from SanFrancisco, but for the most part, the major cruise beginning/ending ports are Seattle, WA; Vancouver, BC, Canada; Seward, AK and Whittier, AK. In between, all of the large ships usually "port" in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, with a few ships also stopping in Sitka and Hoonah.

Oh, okay awesome. Do any cruise ships leave out of Alaska or do most of them destination there?

I bet it's a very pretty ride to Alaska from where ever the port of departure may be. I went to Mexico on a Cruise and it was amazing.

All of the above... some cruise lines run round trips out of Seattle and Vancouver, but there are plenty of 1-way trips too... many folks fly into Anchorage to begin a cruise in Whittier or Seward headed south-bound.

Since the cruise really shows you SouthEast Alaska, it's often nice to do a land-tour in the northern part of the state either before or after your cruise.

I think that is a great idea to fly into Alaska and take a cruise from there. I am loving this site for tips just like that one.

I have to agree with the previous posts. The major out ports are Seattle and so on. But flying into Alaska is also a very good idea and then taking a cruise. Just about any way you choose to go you are sure to have a fantastic time and you will see many things that you will enjoy.
