Default Taku Cabin

Alaska State Parks has 4 cabins near Juneau that are easily accessible by boat. Taku Harbor is really a nice cabin, the State rebuilt the dock a couple years ago and State Parks put in a gravel trail connecting the cabin to the dock. This is by far the most easily accessible cabin around Juneau. At only 25 miles from town it makes a great getaway. If you like southeast Alaska History this is a great spot. It has an Alaskan Native Grave Yard site located on the souther point of the harbor. The cabin Site was the residence of a famouse Juneau Character and you can even find a short book about him in our local stores. More info on the whole area is available in a book called In The Wake of an Alaskan Mailboat. This book chronicals the adventures of the Sperl Family as they bring mail to Taku Harbor and all around the area once a week year round.

It is easy to catch dungies right near the cabin and other fishing can be had in the water just outside the harbor. Black bears are commonly seen in the harbor and in Limestone Inlet a couple miles south. You can get to Taku Harbor in your own boat and safely tie to the free state dock, you can charter a plane or charter a boat. The State Park web site is Public Use Cabins, Southeast Area

I hope this info helps someone find a nice retreat.

Any additional info on this cabin or Taku Harbor would be great to have.
I can post info on lots of other cabins and places so go ahead and ask.
